Spontaneous 16.5m Aluminium Cruiser
This aluminum 16.5 meter cruiser has been designed for a vastly experienced couple, Grant & Debbie Blake of Auckland . Apart from being an capable “go anywhere” cruiser her layout has been dictated as much by the ability to work as a charter vessel around North Island, taking parties of up to six guests in three double ensuite cabins, while still having two separate crew berths and ablutions. This is usual, in boats two meters longer, especially when one considers that this boat gives nothing away in the “party” size saloon and galley area. The cockpit area also is large, sociable & sheltered.

This boat conceptually follows many boats I have done in similar vein, both larger & smaller. Any sensible cruiser these days will provide a doghouse for shelter from the sun and elements, and the center cockpit provides split, private accommodations, a separate engine room, and a huge aft deck area for leisure activities, which for this owner it is mainly fishing, scuba diving & the like. Steps lead down one side to the boarding platform aft. The boat is ruggedly in excess of ABS rules with integral double bottom tankage, and was built under NZ Survey and licensing approval as a commercial vessel. The aluminum structure provides all the damage tolerance and integrity of a metal boat while still being light enough to give real meaning to the term “performance cruiser”. The boat is fast enough be fun to sail around Hauraki Gulf. She has “Grace, Space, Pace” - by the shovel full.

The drawings have been developed as a “cut file” vessel, so that all internal parts are plasma cut. The drawings are well detailed.
